The History of FiberCore

From Packing Material to Animal Bedding, This is Our Story

FiberCore and the Eco-Bedding product line have a rich and storied history.  Developed in the early 1990's by John Ratzenberger, better known as Cliff Clavin on the TV show Cheers, Eco-Pak / Eco-Bedding was originally designed to be an environmentally friendly substitute for Styrofoam peanuts.  A consummate tinkerer, John saw an opportunity to offer a clean, light weight and ecological alternative to the ubiquitous packing material.  He saw his vision grow nicely and just as the company was being sold to a larger packaging company outside of Cleveland, a TIME magazine article about John caught the eye of an industrious distributor who could see the benefits of Eco-Pak as a bedding and enrichment material for a variety of animals.  After several tests, the Eco-Bedding was introduced into the consumer pet industry.

FiberCore, LLC was formed in 2005 to purchase the product line from Ranpak.  We immediately set forth in updating the packing, expanding the product line and improving distribution.  We have succeeded in expanding sales 10 times.  Numerous scientific studies repeatedly prove Eco-Bedding is by far the most beneficial bedding and and enrichment material available.  FiberCore and Eco-Bedding continue to garner praise and compliments form customers, industry professionals, the scientific community and the business community. In August of 2011, FiberCore was the recipient of the Cleveland Emerald Award, recognizing our efforts in promoting sustainable business practices.

To assist with our retail packing, FiberCore has developed a strong relationship with Deepwood Industries, a locally based workforce of developmentally disabled adults. Deepwood has enabled us to substantially grow our business while simultaneously providing steady meaningful work for over 125 developmentally disabled adults.

Clean, absorbent, and completely dust free, Eco-Bedding is the ideal pet bedding and nesting material for pet rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets and chinchillas. Made from 100% recycled paper, our interlocking crinkle encourages foraging and nesting activities which reduce stress and boost immune systems.
